Player Ratings – 4/7 @ Columbus

This post will the be the first in putting our player ratings up on the site.  Today’s rating will only be from Truman, as both Pat and I have had technical difficulties in trying to watch the game, of which you can read about my problems here.  In the future, all 3 of us will be providing ratings in these posts.

Starters:

GK:  Ryan Meara

  • Truman: 8 – Made several HUGE saves in the second half. Punched out balls that other goalies in the past would have tried to grab and would have fumbled. The lone goal was certainly not on him.
D: Roy Miller
  • Truman6 – Even, not spectacular. There were some giveaways on his side during the second half, but most of those were because of Marcus Holgersson.
D: Markus Holgersson
  • Truman3 – Debacle. Looked terrible, gave way too many balls away, and did not properly cover his man when Columbus scored their lone goal.
D: Stephen Keel
  • Truman6 – Played fairly well. Cleared out several balls when played into the box. Stepped in admirably for Conde.
D: Jan Gunner Solli
  • Truman7 – Again, pretty solid. Moved the ball well up the field, not many mistakes. Plus cleared a ball out that was possibly heading into the net after Meara couldn’t make the save himself.
M: Mhedi Ballouchy
  • Truman8 – Played a great game stepping in for Lindpere. Was given his chance to shine and certainly did that, and perhaps (but doubtful) might have stolen even more time from Lindpere.
M: Dax McCarty
  • Truman7 – Seems to be really coming around playing full minutes in the central midfield. Only missed one pass in the defensive side of the field, and that came very late in the game.
M: Rafa Marquez
  • Truman8 – Worked his ass off. Had the most successful passes out of every player on the field. A huge turnaround from the week before. Seemed to be healthy as he played the full 90 minutes. Hopefully we see more of this Rafa and not the Rafa from the week before, hurt and giving up too many balls.
M: Dane Richards
  • Truman7 – Great game. Moved the ball into the Columbus box really well. His deflected pass led to Kenny Cooper’s second goal of the game, a header into the far corner of the net.
F: Kenny Cooper
  • Truman9 – Two goals, both outstanding. 27 completed passes. Cooper has found a form that must have mostly vanished in Portland. Rodgers who?
F: Thierry Henry
  • Truman9 – He’s a 3 time player of the week, which goes to show how unbelievably well he’s playing right now, and although his first goal was class, his second one was one of pure anger. You could see how disgusted he was when Columbus scored, and took a great lob pass from Joel Lindpere and rifled it into the net to officially seal the win.

Substitutes:

M: Joel Lindpere (on for Dane Richards)

  • Truman7 – Not a bad way to come in as a sub. Play 10 minutes, and a fantastic lob pass to Thierry Henry for the final goal of the game. Time well spent.
